Science

Description:

A very warm welcome to Marcelo's Masterclasses.

Following the success of his previous Masterclasses, Marcelo has designed three sessions that immerse the children in really exciting creative thinking and practical activities in Maths, Philosophy and Science. The sessions will link with each other to ensure that, by the end, every child develops a really deep and lifelong love of learning and of thinking.

Marcelo would also like to celebrate the recent publication of his book 'The Joy of Not Knowing' and its nomination as best education book for 2021 by offering all children who register for these sessions a signed and dedicated copy of the book to keep and enjoy for ever and ever!

Science
Developing a love of Science from an Early Age!

WARNING! 'This course may leave you with no choice but to become a scientist when you grow up!

Would you like to spend a day enjoying being a scientist, learning to think like a scientist and having a go at lots of scientific experiments? As a former research scientist, myself and then a teacher and headteacher, I would love to share with you all, my enthusiasm for science, for medicine and for thinking of ways in which science can help to improve the lives and health of people throughout the world. We will then share all your ideas with the Charity 'SENSE About Science' https://senseaboutscience.org/) leading to amazing opportunities!

The day will be full of practical activities, thought provoking conversations, philosophical debates, using language, communication, history, geography, maths and the creative arts to bring science alive and make it fascinating for you and enabling you to enjoy it at school even more. I have a feeling that you will seriously consider a career in science after you've attended one of these courses!

Amongst lots of really interesting things, we will look at amazing scientific discoveries, measure the speed of sound, measure the height of tress, create a dance of the red blood cell, play science scrabble, have a go at philosophical scientific discussions, make as elf-powered vehicle and disprove lots of current scientific thinking!
